Police arrest Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena and two others in connection with a shooting incident

The Ghana Police Service has arrested Israel Kwadwo Safo, also known as "Akofena," following an alleged shooting incident involving former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, which occurred on Sunday, June 21, 2026.

In a police statement, the suspect reported himself to the Regional Police Headquarters on Monday, June 22, 2026, where he was transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters to assist with ongoing investigations.

After the police searched the suspect’s residence and vehicle, they discovered 120 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, 50 rounds of .45 caliber ammunition, 25 rounds of .40 caliber ammunition, multiple loaded magazines, and two Glock pistols, one of which is registered in his name.

The police further indicated that two additional suspects, Nana Kwaku Afriyie and Kwadwo Safo Koomson, have been arrested in connection with the case.

All suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations, and are expected to be brought before the court on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, as proceedings continue.
