17-year-old Mfantsipim student found dead in uncompleted building in Cape Coast

A 17-year-old final-year student of Mfantsipim Senior High School (SHS) has been found dead in an uncompleted building at OLA North in the Central Region.

The incident occurred on Thursday, June 11, 2026.

According to a police report, a carpenter working at the site discovered the decomposed body at about 4:45 pm and reported it to officers at 17:30 hours.

When detectives and the complainant returned to the scene, they found the male youth hanging by a cloth in the structure.

Chief Inspector Isaac Evans Ettie, PRO of the Central Regional Police Command, briefed the media and said a search of the scene yielded a black backpack containing a mock examination paper (Geography Paper 1, 2026) bearing the name Emmanuel Arthur, along with a small feature phone, an Android smartphone and other personal items.

"Photographs of the scene and body were taken by police investigators."

Mfantsipim school authorities were contacted and later confirmed the deceased as Emmanuel Arthur.

The boy’s parents have also been notified.

The pathologist at Cape Coast Teaching Hospital declared the body decomposed.

The Central and Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly’s Environmental Health Directorate attended and fumigated the location.

Police removed the body and handed it over to the family. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.

The family buried their son shortly after the decomposed body was released to them.
