Akuapem Tech Summit 2026 partners Ashesi University on “Silicon Ridge” innovation drive

Akuapem Tech Summit 2026 organisers have held strategic talks with Ashesi University founder Patrick Awuah on a Silicon Ridge innovation vision and partnership.

The engagement forms part of preparations for the inaugural Akuapem Tech Summit 2026, scheduled for October 1, 2026, at the Peduase Valley Resort in Ghana’s Eastern Region. The meeting focused on positioning the Akuapem Ridge as a future technology and innovation corridor through collaboration between academia, government, industry, and development partners.

Mr. Awuah, founder of Ashesi University, outlined a long-term transformation agenda anchored on talent development, infrastructure expansion, and policy support. He stressed that the region already holds strong potential for tech-driven growth.

He noted that Akuapem’s talent base is strengthened by institutions such as Ashesi University, while improved fibre-optic connectivity and road networks provide a foundation for digital expansion.

According to him, earlier investments in land and institutional presence in the area reflect a long-standing ambition to develop a technology ecosystem on the ridge, describing it as part of a broader “Silicon Valley idea on the ridge.”

He further emphasised that government leadership, strong municipal governance, and enabling infrastructure would be critical to attracting technology firms and sustaining innovation clusters.

Mr. Awuah also outlined the broader economic ripple effects of a tech hub, including demand for retail services, hospitality, housing, and supporting infrastructure, which could generate employment and attract investment. He cited ongoing developments at Ashesi University, including the operational STEM building and the upcoming Ashesi Leadership Centre, as key assets that support innovation and leadership training.

As part of future collaboration, Mr. Awuah expressed his willingness to support the Akuapem Technology Secretariat in an advisory capacity, adding that quarterly and virtual engagements could serve as practical mechanisms for sustained collaboration between stakeholders.

The Akuapem Technology Secretariat expressed appreciation to Mr. Awuah for his insights and engagement, describing the discussions as pivotal to advancing the summit’s long-term vision.

The Secretariat further pledged a mutually beneficial partnership with Ashesi University, signalling closer collaboration on innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital transformation initiatives across the Akuapem area.
