The Central Regional Police Command has arrested a man for allegedly possessing 3,500 rounds of ammunition without lawful authority during an intelligence‑led operation on the Accra–Assin Fosu Highway.
The suspect, identified as Francis Ampomah, was arrested on Tuesday, May 27, 2026 at about 00:30 at the Green Field Plantation snap‑check point.

According to the police, officers intercepted a Toyota Voxy vehicle with registration number GT 9748‑26, which was being driven by the suspect from Accra towards Assin Fosu.
A search of the vehicle uncovered 14 boxes of shotgun ammunition concealed in the car. The police stated that each box contained 250 cartridges, bringing the total number of rounds retrieved to 3,500.

The suspect was immediately detained and is currently in police custody assisting with investigations. The vehicle used to transport the ammunition has been impounded by the police.
The Central Regional Police Command said investigations into the matter are ongoing.
