Head-on crash in Akomadan kills 12, injures 2

Twelve people have died and two others are critically injured after a commercial minibus and a trailer collided head-on in Akomadan, Offinso North District, Ashanti Region.

The crash happened Tuesday afternoon in front of the Offinso North District Assembly.

According to the police, a minibus, which was traveling from Kumasi to Wenchi for Eid celebrations, tried to overtake another vehicle and crossed into the path of an oncoming trailer coming from Techiman toward Kumasi, causing the collision.

The Akomadan District Police Commander, DSP Paul Boabeng Donkor, confirmed the overtaking manoeuvre as the likely cause and said investigations are underway.

Nkenkaasu Government Hospital Medical Superintendent, Dr. Samuel Freeman Mensah, said 11 passengers were pronounced dead on arrival at the facility, and a twelfth victim died while being transported to Techiman for further treatment.

Two survivors are in stable condition and receiving care. Families are arriving at the hospital to identify their relatives, and the bodies have been kept at the Nkenkaasu Government Hospital morgue.

Police have towed the damaged vehicles to clear traffic.
