Mahama announces the establishment of two new Technical Universities in the Oti and Bono East Region

President John Dramani Mahama has announced the establishment of two additional technical universities, to be sited at Jasikan in the Oti Region and Techiman in the Bono East Region.

Addressing the 4th Biennial Applied Research Conference of Technical Universities on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, in Takoradi, he indicated that this expansion will be complemented by a new University of Science and Technology to be established in the Savannah Region.

“The new universities will be the bridge between the world of science and industry. They will forge a symbiotic relationship with industry by utilising industrial resources for innovation and technological advancement,” President Mahama said.

The initiative, according to the President, is aimed at increasing access to higher education, particularly in the northern belt of the country.

His Excellency added that the government will establish a TVET Fund to strengthen science and technical education nationwide.

He noted that technical universities are key to addressing youth unemployment by equipping graduates with practical, industry-relevant skills, adding that the goal is to shift the national focus from producing job seekers to producing job creators.
