BoG orders suspension of MMFL’s 0.75% wallet‑to‑bank transfer fee pending consultations

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has directed Mobile Money Fintech Limited (MMFL) to suspend implementation of its proposed 0.75 percent fee on direct wallet‑to‑bank transfers.

In a statement, the BoG said the fee, which was scheduled to take effect on June 1, 2026, is now on hold to allow for further consultation.

The Bank added that the decision "reflects their commitment to ensuring that any changes to charges in the mobile financial services ecosystem are introduced fairly, protect consumers, and support their financial wellbeing."

The BoG said it will engage relevant stakeholders to review the proposal and ensure that any adjustments to fees are consistent with consumer protection principles and broader financial inclusion objectives.

MMFL has been asked to refrain from implementing the charge until the consultation process is complete and a further notice is issued.
