Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has lavished praise on new signing Antoine Semenyo, describing the Ghanaian forward’s impact as "unbelievable" following his clinical display against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The 25-year-old, who arrived at the Etihad Stadium from AFC Bournemouth earlier this month in a £65 million deal, doubled City’s lead to secure a 2-0 victory on Saturday, January 24.
This strike maintains Semenyo’s prolific start to life in Manchester, marking his third goal in just four appearances for the Premier League giants. Guardiola did not hold back when assessing the immediate influence of his new recruit, emphasising that the forward is already delivering the "numbers" required at the highest level.
"Antoine came with incredible energy," Guardiola said. "Strikers are about numbers. Since he arrived, he has been unbelievable."
The Catalan manager was particularly impressed by the technical proficiency Semenyo displayed for his goal, an expertly controlled finish that effectively ended Wolves' hopes of a comeback. "It was an incredible goal," Guardiola noted. "It looks easy, but the control is perfect to pass the ball to the net."
Semenyo nearly added a second later in the half, rattling the crossbar following a precise delivery from fellow new arrival Marc Guéhi. With four goal contributions, comprising three goals and one assist, in his first fortnight at the club, Semenyo is already repaying the significant investment City made to lure him from the South Coast.
His seamless integration into a star-studded attack suggests he will be a pivotal figure in City’s hunt for silverware this season. Beyond the Etihad, his form is a significant boost for Ghanaian football.
As the Black Stars look ahead to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, having a talisman performing at the peak of his powers in the English top flight provides a major lift for the national side.
