'Dr. Bawumia is the most popular and appealing candidate' – Awal Mohammed

Communication Team Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Awal Mohammed, has stated that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will emerge victorious in the upcoming election on January 31.

According to Mohammed, the historical context of Ghanaian political parties is not exclusive to the NPP. He pointed out that no first-time candidate has ever won an election in Ghana.

This observation is supported by the broader trend in Ghanaian politics, which reveals that those who win elections typically hand over power to their opponents.

He emphasised that former President Jerry Rawlings handed over to former President John Kufuor, who then transferred power to the late President John Mills.

Similarly, President Mills was succeeded by President Mahama, who in turn was handed over by Nana Akufo-Addo. These leaders, he insists, were first-time candidates who lost their initial elections.

In his view, Dr. Bawumia stands out as the most popular and appealing candidate with an impeccable track record of governance among all political parties in the country. Mohammed asserts that there is no one within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who can rival the former Vice President.

Speaking on GhOne TV on Monday, January 26, he stated, "Now when you check, who in this country is the most popular, most appealing and has the track records of governance is Dr. Bawumia in all parties; there's no one in NDC who can match him."

He further assured, "He has been the Vice President for the last eight years; there's no one in this country who has that track record."

Awal Mohammed noted that the current aspirants contesting in the NPP presidential primaries lack the same level of experience as Dr. Bawumia.

He remarked that in terms of governance, only two candidates have served as cabinet ministers, whereas Dr. Bawumia's achievements are unmatched in the upcoming presidential primaries.

"The challenges are the reason I'm not predicting 90%, the reason being that when we were in government, there was a yawning gap between the government and the party," he explained.

"So Dr. Bawumia stands tall, and I assure you he will win and will win overwhelmingly, uniting everyone to ensure victory in the 2028 general election."
