Chief dies after accidental self-inflicted gunshot at funeral in Ayanfuri

A chief in Ayanfuri, Central Region, Nana Kwabena Okyere, has reportedly died following an accidental gunshot wound during a funeral ceremony on May 9, 2026.

According to reports, the incident occurred during the funeral rites of Abusuapanyin Akwasi Kwateng, when the chief allegedly shot himself in the abdomen with a pump-action gun.

He was rushed to Ayanfuri Pentecost Hospital for treatment but sadly passed away whilst receiving medical care.

His body has been deposited at the Dunkwa-On-Offin Municipal Hospital mortuary as police continue investigation on the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
