Police retrieve 1,400 rounds of ammunition at workshop in Bolgatanga

The Upper East Regional Police Command has retrieved a large quantity of ammunition at a mechanic workshop near the Assemblies of God Church in Bolgatanga.

According to the police statement, the items were retrieved after an auto mechanic reported that his apprentice found suspicious objects while sweeping the workshop on Saturday, May 9, 2026.

The police indicated that a team of officers quickly moved to the scene and recovered two sealed packets concealed in fertilizer sacks inside a hen coop which contained a total of 1,400 rounds of 7.62×39mm ammunition, with each packet having 700 rounds.

Authorities noted the exhibits are in custody for evidential purposes, while investigations are ongoing to determine the ownership of the ammunition.
