Black Sherif has further entrenched his status as one of the defining figures of Ghana’s contemporary music scene after retaining the coveted Artiste of the Year title at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA 27), marking a rare run of sustained dominance in the country’s top music category.
The Konongo-born artiste, born Mohammed Ismail Sherif, secured the award on Saturday night at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre, outpacing heavyweight contenders including Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Medikal, Wendy Shay, and Diana Hamilton.
Beyond the celebration, his latest win signals something increasingly uncommon in Ghana’s music industry: consistency at the very top over multiple award cycles.
With this victory, Black Sherif becomes one of the few contemporary artistes to win Artiste of the Year more than once within a relatively short span, having first claimed the title in 2023.
