On the climax of International Firefighters’ Day 2026, the Chief Fire Officer has delivered a strong message to the public and personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service, calling for renewed respect, collaboration, and support for firefighters across the country.
In a press statement, he commended firefighters for their valour, commitment, compassion, and sacrifices in saving lives and protecting property.
He assured them that their dedication to duty, often under dangerous and challenging conditions, continues to inspire the nation.
"Today marks the climax of the week-long celebration of International Firefighters' Day. Firefighters continue to risk their lives dailyto protect people, property, and the environment.
"Their courage should inspire all of us to remain professional, disciplined, and
committed, even in the face of danger.
"We also remember our fallen heroes who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. To those who are injured, we remain committed to your full
recovery," it stated.
However, he urged the public that the Ghana National Fire Service needs their full support and cooperation to serve them better. He further pointed out that attacking firefighters or damaging fire engines is unlawful and puts lives at risk.
"When firefighters are attacked, it delays emergency response and canlead to loss of lives and property.
We strongly urge all persons to desist from such acts.
"Firefighters are your partners in development and safety. Work with us by respecting emergency responders, allowing us to do our job, and protecting our equipment.
"We also encourage the public to follow basic fire safety measures and report fires early," the statement added.
The statement further assured that an early call will help the Fire Service respond quickly and save more lives and property.
"As we observe this year's International Firefighters' Day under the theme "An attack on Firefighters and Equipment is an attack on public safety; End assaults and protect the firefighter," let us commit to protecting those who protect us."
